A school of Tennessee shiners flashed their bright-orange breeding colors as they circled the gravel pile, and several warpaint shiners hovered nearby in a holding pattern against the current.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rivers that drain these mountains are like little Amazons,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cOut West, we might see a few trout species, but the underwater ecosystems around here are much richer.
