{"id":3301,"date":"2024-11-17T18:05:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-17T23:05:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/?p=3301"},"modified":"2024-11-17T18:06:00","modified_gmt":"2024-11-17T23:06:00","slug":"presidents-note-november-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/?p=3301","title":{"rendered":"President&#8217;s Note &#8211; November 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) was selected by the National Park Trust as one of only five national parks to host a fly fishing event for US military veterans and their families this year.\u00a0 This event was held Saturday, November 16 at Tremont Institute and included participants from Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). \u00a0 At the request of the National Park Service, the Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited (LRCTU) provided nine volunteers to assist with this event.\u00a0 Although fishing conditions may not have been ideal, it was a great day on the water with our veterans who have done so much to protect our nation.\u00a0 There were no less than seventeen service men and women fishing Middle Prong of Little River on Saturday.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure most of the people driving Tremont Road yesterday did not realize the sacrifices the fishermen they were observing have made for our country.\u00a0 Saturday was a great reminder that fishing is so much more than about catching fish. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"928\" height=\"272\" src=\"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3303\" srcset=\"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-1.png 928w, http:\/\/lrctu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-1-300x88.png 300w, http:\/\/lrctu.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-1-768x225.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>LRCTU had another group of volunteers working in GSMNP this Saturday supporting collection of water samples for acid deposition studies.\u00a0 There are not many Trout Unlimited Chapters that would have been able to support two events of this magnitude on a single day.\u00a0 Thank you to all our volunteers and the members who support them.<br><br>The 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual LRCTU On-Line Auction will be held from November 23 thru\u00a0December 8.\u00a0 At least 80% of the auction proceeds will be donated to the GSMNP Fisheries Department.\u00a0 Additional details regarding the auction are provided later in this newsletter.
