{"id":1241,"date":"2014-08-09T01:26:07","date_gmt":"2014-08-09T01:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/?p=1241"},"modified":"2014-08-09T01:34:47","modified_gmt":"2014-08-09T01:34:47","slug":"august-meeting-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lrctu.org\/?p=1241","title":{"rendered":"August Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>President\u2019s Corner<\/strong><br \/>\nMike Bryant (mjbryant1954@hotmail.com)<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Aug2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lrctu.org\/Newsletter\/Newsletters\/Aug2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Newsletter<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am very much a warm weather person.\u00a0 Winter and cold weather have never been my favorite time of year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I credit that to my mother who grew up in the South.\u00a0 I\u2019ll take shorts and t-shirts over long pants and fleece any day.\u00a0 Said another way I\u2019ll take wet wading in the Park over waders.\u00a0 Fishing in the Park has had its ups and downs this spring and summer.\u00a0\u00a0 Earlier the lack of rain dropped the water levels and raised water temperatures, forcing\u00a0 a change in my fishing tactics and locations.\u00a0 Recent late July rains have raised the water levels to a healthy state, and fishing can be quite good.\u00a0 Even with slow fishing, I never grow tired of being in the Park.\u00a0 We are so blessed to have these great natural resources in our backyard.\u00a0 I hope you will take the time to visit, explore and fish there.\u00a0 Most folks would give their eye teeth to have what we have, so I encourage you to take some time to visit.\u00a0 Better yet, take a child and help build tomorrow\u2019s conservation leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Our chapter continues to be busy this summer.\u00a0 Volunteers have been helping Matt and Park employees with sampling and electroshocking.\u00a0 I joined over 100 volunteers help clean the Clinch River last month.\u00a0 The event was organized by the Clinch River Chapter.\u00a0 I was part of the tire cleanup crew that removed over 300 tires that day and personally removed four large truck brake rotors.\u00a0 Go figure!\u00a0 I guess it\u2019s in my DNA, but I have never understood why people liter.\u00a0 Anyway, I\u2019m glad we have the opportunity to find ways to preserve and restore our natural treasures, even if others don\u2019t\u00a0 appreciate what we have.<\/p>\n<p>We had another great monthly meeting at River John\u2019s again this year.\u00a0 Other than a brief shower, the weather was good.\u00a0 Many thanks to Ross Schweinforth for conducting a casting class prior to dinner.\u00a0 All the feedback from the students was positive.\u00a0 If you flyfish the most important skill to learn is a casting.\u00a0 Many thanks to Ross \u2013 it\u2019s one thing to be a good caster, it is an entirely different deal to have the capability to teach someone to how to cast.\u00a0 It\u2019s a gift and Ross has this gift.\u00a0 And what can I say, Outdoor Chef Extraordinaire Mike McKinsey and his help provided yet another outstanding meal at River John\u2019s.\u00a0 Thanks Mike!!!<\/p>\n<p>There are some cool fall events coming up that you will want to check in this newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, our next monthly meeting is on <strong>Thursday, August 28 at Calhoun\u2019s in Maryville<\/strong>.\u00a0 Dave Knapp will be our featured speaker.\u00a0 Many of you know Dave and know of his fishing and guiding abilities.\u00a0\u00a0 Dave will discuss fishing opportunities and tactics in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you can make the August meeting, attend one or more of the upcoming events and give some thought to how you can help by donating your time and talents.<\/p>\n<p>Be safe.<\/p>\n<p>Mike<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President\u2019s Corner Mike Bryant (mjbryant1954@hotmail.com) Newsletter I am very much a warm weather person.\u00a0 Winter and cold weather have never been my favorite time of year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I credit that to my mother who grew up in the South.\u00a0 I\u2019ll take &hellip;
